Blind Sketching: Let Go of the Line
Forget about drawing things “the right way”. What if you could make art without worrying about whether it looks good?
Join Anna for a playful afternoon of blind sketching at Always Summer! Put your pen to paper, look closely at the objects in front of you, and let your hand wander without worrying about the result. Expect wobbly lines, unexpected shapes, funny surprises, and drawings that might turn out completely different from what you imagined.
No experience is needed, and absolutely no artistic talent is required. Just bring your curiosity, a little willingness to experiment, and an openness to seeing what happens when you let go of control.
About the workshop
Blind contour drawing is a simple but surprisingly entertaining drawing exercise: you look at an object, keep your eyes on it rather than on your paper, and draw its outline in one continuous line. You don’t erase, you don’t correct, and you don’t worry about the result. You simply observe and draw.
During this workshop, we’ll explore this technique through a series of lighthearted exercises designed to help you loosen up, quiet your inner critic, and discover the joy of drawing without expectations. We’ll play with lines, shapes, and observation, using flowers and other everyday objects as our inspiration.
We’ll experiment with drawing slowly without looking at the paper, sketching with our non-dominant hands, and trying other playful challenges that take us out of our usual habits. Some drawings might look surprisingly recognisable, while others might resemble something entirely different. And that’s exactly the point!
This isn’t a class about perfect proportions, polished illustrations, or mastering complicated techniques. It’s about enjoying the process, embracing imperfections, and discovering how much fun drawing can be when there is no pressure to get it right.
The workshop is open to everyone, whether you haven’t drawn since childhood or already fill sketchbooks with your work. You don’t need to know how to draw. You just need to be ready to give it a try.
All materials will be provided, so you can simply show up, relax, and start drawing. And, of course, you’ll take your sketches and drawing materials home with you!
What’s included?
- All the drawing materials you’ll need
- Flowers and other objects to use as drawing inspiration
- A series of playful drawing exercises and creative challenges
- Your own collection of sketches to take home
- A pen and paper to continue experimenting after the workshop
Everything is provided, so there’s nothing you need to bring except yourself!
Why join?
Have you ever wanted to draw but felt that you weren’t good enough? Or found yourself erasing the same line over and over because it didn’t look quite right?
This workshop is an invitation to do the opposite.
We’ll explore what happens when we stop trying to control every line and allow ourselves to make something unexpected. It’s a chance to step away from the pressure of everyday life, play with your creativity, and remember that making art can simply be fun.
You might surprise yourself with what you create. You might laugh at your drawings. You might even discover a new way of seeing familiar things.
No rules about what looks good, no mistakes to fix, and no pressure to be an artist. Just you, a pen, a piece of paper, and a little creative freedom.
Come on your own or bring a friend. Either way, you’ll be in a welcoming space where everyone gets to experiment, make a mess of their lines, and enjoy the process together.
About your host
I have been sketching for 10 years, capturing buildings, parks, scenery, and simple everyday scenes. First developed as a necessary skill for my studies, sketching quickly became a passion. During my years in architecture school, I experimented with different styles, took workshops and courses, and sketched outdoors. Now I work across different mediums and use sketching as a tool to capture my memories and illustrate emotions, both mine and those of others.
