FAQ's
1.) Do I need to bring anything to the workshop?
For Embodied Embroidery (embroidery workshop) you’re asked to bring a piece of clothing (or a small cloth, scarf, tote bag, hat etc.) you would like to give a special touch (it’s in the details ;)). I recommend items made of a sturdy canvas or denim fabric — preferably 100% cotton or similar. In case you can’t find anything in time, there are available items (tote bags, cloths) in the Always Summer Store that can be chosen during the workshop with a 20% discount.
Also, please, bring some (leftover) thread* of your choice and needle(s).
*I usually recommend Sashiko thread, but can basically be any type of cotton thread of a similar thickness (for ex. size 8 perle cotton or regular cotton embroidery floss) and/or you have leftovers of. Sashiko thread is available at Cross&Woods — Westeinde 73A, Den Haag, for example.
2.) Do I need to buy new materials for the workshop?
Not necessarily. For Embodied Embroidery (embroidery workshop) you are asked to bring a piece of clothing, and thread and needle — it doesn’t really matter if you have those items already at home, borrow/ get them from a friend/ family member/ neighbor, get them second hand or buy new ones at a shop (see: my shop recommendations in section 1.)).
I (Irene) strongly encourage bringing second-hand, leftover materials and precious finds from your grandparents’, parents’ — you name it — household to the session (think as sustainably as possible). As a bonus: you might discover one or the other funny and heartwarming story about the people in your life.
:)
3.) Do I need any experience?
Not at all. The workshop is designed in a way that they bring equally much joy to beginners as well as people who already have experience with the techniques being used. In any case, Irene will be there to guide you through the experience.
4.) Will there be drinks and snacks provided?
There will be tea and water at your free disposal. If you feel like you could use a little snack for in-between, please, feel free to bring any. Please, note though that participants are not meant to have an extensive lunch or dinner during the workshop. This might disturb the flow of the session. Thanks for your understanding.
5.) Can I make something different?
Definitely. Although Irene will be there to guide you through the experience, it’s up to you what you want your creation(s) to look like (and be like) in the end. Irene will show you some basic techniques, but you’re always welcome to go freestyle on your piece of work.
6.) Where does the event take place?
Always Summer Concept Store — Prins Hendrikstraat 124, The Hague, in the heart of the Zeeheldenkwartier.
7.) What if I cannot make it in the end?
We understand that life occasionally makes its own plans and that yours might change.

MATERIALS
MATERIALS
Stainless steel and gold-plated stainless steel
Stainless steel is an alloy of iron. We use a high quality stainless steel that is made to last. It is highly polished to create the shiny look. When plated, a thick layer of 18K gold is applied to the outside of the stainless steel jewelry. Our plating is strong, so you can wear it in the shower of while taking a dip in the ocean, without worrying about your jewelry!
Brass
Brass is a natural and sustainable earth-derived material. An affordable alternative to gold that has a luxurious look and feel.
Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc and is free of lead and nickel. It is hypoallergenic and waterproof. The jewelry in the Golden Monsterra collection use new brass containing 70% copper and 30% zinc. The T'Boli jewelry is made from recycled brass.
Brass oxidizes over time because of the copper content. This gives the jewelry a 'vintage look' that is preferred by many. It is always possible to restore the original shine with cleaning.
Our tip is to keep wearing the brass jewelry for longer time. The oil from your skin will help clean and maintain your brass pieces. Also a shower or a dip in the ocean will help clean your jewelry.
Pearls
If every country has a gemstone, the Philippines would be the pearl, keeping its name the Pearl of the Orient seas. The archipelago has lovely varieties of white and freshwater pearls. We've scouted the Palawagan region and other parts of Philippines to infuse it with our jewelry.
Pearls, while they seem hard, are actually quite delicate and need to be handled with care. Avoid contact with perfumes and harsh chemicals. When pierced, pearls are no longer water proof so avoid to expose jewelry with pierced pearls to water. You can always clean pearls simply with a cloth. Store your pearls separately so other jewelry doesn't scratch them.
